Happiness (what it really means)

I came across this quote today that I wanted to share with you and share my thoughts.

Maybe happiness is this: not feeling like you should be elsewhere, doing something else, being someone else.
– Isaac Asimov
Most of my life, and many people’s lives I would assume, is spent on finding happiness.  Some people try to find it in material things, some in meditation, some in therapy, in drugs, in other people.
In searching within myself I have come to realize that no matter our circumstance, rich, poor, job, no job, kids, no kids, it is up to us to create our own happiness by living in this moment.  Dwelling in the past will never help us and dreaming too far in the future won’t get us far if we are not living now.
I keep thinking of Eckhart Tolle’s book and I have been doing internal work to break free from the outward sources of happiness and trying to see all things as lessons instead of failures or mistakes.  I think this is what creates a happy life, no matter your circumstance.
I hope you had a beautiful day.
